qiWELLNESS mobile


Most of the devices described on the biotronics portal have implemented bioZAP language. This allows them to be independently controlled from any computer, e.g. a smartphone. Without much of work, you can construct the therapies that you need for yourself, and control your qiWELLNESS device using the Android application.
Of course, nothing prevents you to use a similar application on other computer platforms.

Step one: install the application available on your phone:



The smartphone application will allow you to send to qiWELLNESS single bioZAP command and full sets of them, so-called macros. You need a USB cable (micro-USB or USB-C depending on your phone) and, on the other hand, a mini-USB (connector built in qiWELLNESS on the Arduino board).
I have a phone with a USB-C connector so I need this cable.



The next step is to run the installed Serial USB Terminal application and configure it accordingly.
Click eclipse (three horizontal lines to expand the menu) and select SetingsThen Serial -> Baud Rate -> 115200.

Then configure the macros. For example, I will present three macros:
1. SINUS PAIN Therapy of sinus headache with their infections or allergies
2. ION+ Iontophoresis using naproxene gel, which is used in the treatment of sport injuries
3. EAP- Electropuncture, used to stimulate acupuncture points in various applications.
Plus or minus after the macro name is for convenience. Describes the polarity of the active electrode (red socket). EAP- means that the active electrode will be negative (-).
Holding the finger on the M1 to M7 button we go to the macro editing. We enter the appropriate commands, remembering to change the setting to Multiline Text.


Description of used commands:

  • ion - enable iontophoresis mode
  • eap - electropuncture / electroacupuncture (EAP) mode
  • chp 0 - change polarization of active electrode to negative
  • chp 1 - active electrode will be positive (+)
  • freq 1000 2 - generate a signal with a frequency of 10.00 Hz and duty cycle of 2%
  • freq 10000 90 - 100 Hz and duty cycle 90%
  • freq 100000 15 - 1kHz and 15%
  • act 1 - turn on voltage to the electrode (necessary in ion mode), it happens automatically in eap mode

We connect cable the device. We set the default application permission to access the serial port if the appropriate window appears. Click the icon in the upper right corner image


No any drivers are needed. The miniVOLL / qiWELLNESS device will introduce itself. Then select the appropriate macro by clicking on its name and start the therapy. qiWELLNESS in this case will be operated and powered directly from a mobile phone.


After connecting the electrodes to the skin on the screen you will see something like this.

:i - means Ionophoresis mode
2678 - means the current  in circuit 2678 uA, which in conversion gives about 2.7 mA in the impulse when the duty cycle is 15%
So the square signal is in a high state for 15% and 85% low (zero). It is easy to calculate the effective value of current 15% * 2.7 mA = 0.4 mA RMS.
The amount of current is regulated by a potentiometer built into the qiWELLNESS device. Always start with the potentiometer set to the minimum and set the appropriate value after connecting the active electrode to the acupoint.

In SINUS PAIN therapy, the current should be about 2.5 mA during the pulse. The therapytime is 5 minutes to the left and 5 minutes to the right body side. We place pen electrode in the points shown in the figure. Second electrode can be held in the hands or, even better, applied to the opposite (other side of the head) of the temple. Use a conductive gel. The skin should be washed with alcohol (ethanol 80-96%) before starting therapy.
As an example, I described the therapy for the treatment of sinus pain, but the support for others looks analogous. The frequency of 1kHz was used in sinus pain therapy, although sources suggest 3-30Hz. This is due to practice. Frequencies lower than 50 Hz cause contractions of the muscles around an eye, which is extremely unpleasant.



On the picture is shown qiWELLNESS device in a mini-version. There is no different from the official edition. The potentiometer is turned almost to a minimum. A voltage of about 5V-9V is enought in this case.
